Three views of the elegant Zubov Wing of the Catherine Palace at Tsarskoye Selo.
The Zubov Wing is an extension built onto the Catherine Palace between 1779 and 1785, during the reign of Catherine Great.
The Empress’s private apartments, which consisted of the Domed Hall, Chinese Hall, Silver Study, Bedchamber, Blue Study (Snuffbox), Mirror Study, Raphael Room, Maid-of-Honour’s Room and Dressing-Room, were situated on the second floor.
During the Second World War the rooms of the Zubov Wing were destroyed. On 15th October 2019 the Tsarskoye Selo State Museum Reserve and PAO Gazprom announced a large-scale reconstruction project titled ‘The Private Space of Catherine II.’ The project aims to recreate eight interiors in the Zubov Wing destroyed during World War Two.
Work on the reconstruction and decoration of the private apartments of Catherine the Great is in full swing, with some of the rooms nearing completion. The eight interiors are expected to receive the first visitors within the next year. Fingers crossed!
