He was the youngest and fifth child of Emperor Nicholas II and Empress Alexandra Feodorovna, and Heir apparent to the Russian throne. According to contemporaries, promised to be an outstanding Russian monarch, one who wanted there to be no poor and unfortunate in his reign.
Alexei was less than a month shy of his fourteenth birthday when he was murdered by the Bolsheviks on 17 July 1918, in the Ipatiev House in Ekaterinburg.
