Photos of the Imperial Royal family on board the Imperial Royal steam yacht, the Alexandria.
The first “Alexandria”, which was launched back in 1851, and was living out its days. On 16 August 1903, the official laying of the steam yacht intended for the Tsar Nicholas II of Russia took place in St. Petersburg, by that time already standing on the slipway of the Baltic Shipyard. The ceremony was attended by the monarch himself, as well as the Empresses Alexandra Feodorovna and Marie Feodorovna, the Greek Queen Olga Konstantinovna, Admiral General Grand Duke Alexei Alexandrovich, the commanding staff of the Naval Ministry and the management of the Baltic Shipyard. The yacht was supposed to replace the first “Alexandria”. Thirteen days after the laying on 29 August the yacht was launched and immediately assigned to the guards crew, and in 1904 was included in the ships of the Baltic Fleet. The previous «Alexandria» was excluded from the Baltic Fleet at the end of 1906.
