Colour autochrome taken in 1917 of the Chinese Hall, one of the interiors of Empress Catherine II, located in the Zubov Wing of the Catherine Palace, Tsarskoye Selo. The magnificent decoration was completely lost during the Great Patriotic War (1941-45).
The reconstruction of these interiors began in 2019. The museum announced this week, that the lacquer wall panels for the Chinese Hall are to be recreated by the Xinxingshi Art Company in Beijing. A total of 155 lacquer panels will be made, work is expected to take 2 years to complete.
