On 11th August 2023, history was restored in Ekaterinburg, when a pair of busts depicting Emperor Peter I (1672-1725) and his second wife Empress Catherine I (1684-1727) were unveiled on Historical Square in front of the Museum of Architecture and Design of the Ural State Academy of Arts.
The installation of the busts is one of numerous events marking the 300th anniversary of the founding of Ekaterinburg in 1723.
The original busts were installed in the Ural city in 1886, and destroyed by the Bolsheviks in 1917.
Ekaterinburg was founded on 18th November 1723 and named after Catherine I, the wife of Peter the Great.
