Yesterday in the mail, I received a parcel from my American FB friend Lynn, which contained this lovely icon of the Holy Royal Martyrs and booklet, which she bought for me during her visit to St. Mary Magdalene Church in Darmstadt.
The Russian revival style church with gilded domes was built between 1897 and 1899 — from the personal funds of Emperor Nicholas II. The church served as a private chapel for Nicholas II and Alexandra Feodorovna, who was born in Darmstadt.
The church was named in honour of the patron saint of Nicholas II’s mother. It was built of Russian stone on soil brought from Russia. The church eas used by the Imperial Family and court during regular visits to the Empress’s childhood home and to her family.
Over the past few years, I have received a number of such gifts from FB friends, none of whom I have ever met in person, but am connected to spiritually by our mutual interest and love for the Holy Royal Martyrs. I feel truly blessed to share my passion with so many on a daily basis, here on Facebook.
Thank you again, Lynn for your very kind and thoughtful gift
